Pakistan?s domestic Structure to be analysed by Peter Moores ? Cricket News Update
The former England coach, Peter Moores, has been asked to advise on the domestic structure of Pakistan cricket. Moores, on a two day visit, is expected to provide a detailed report to Pakistan Cricket Board within 10 days.
The news came a day after PCB formed a task force for the same, which consists of Javed Miandad, Intikhab Alam, Zaheer Abbas, Moin Khan, Sarfraz Nawaz, Iqbal Qasim, Imtiaz Ahmed and Zakir Khan. Alam, the director of international cricket for the PCB was asked to become the force's chairman. ???
PCB, alongside Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Aamir Sohail, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Javed Miandad and Intikhab Alam, invited Moores to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore to reflect on the propositions to improve the domestic structure of the country and upon the role of the cricket academies.
"I know Pakistan has produced so many talented players and I came here to see where things are at the moment and if I can help in any way to move things forward it would be great," Moores shared. ?
The domestic frame of the country has been changing dynamically over the years, with last decade being the most irregular. It is a mix of regional and departmental teams. Comparing it with the English system, the 49-year-old expert said, "The system doesn't look particularly different (compared to England). I need some time to find out what is going on."
The earnings from the domestic regions are less than the spending by the PCB. Investing so much in it, the results have not been up to par, feels Sarfraz Nawaz, the former pacer. The present players are getting a taste of only 2-3 years of international cricket compared to the greats like Wasim, Waqar or Miandad who ended their careers after being in the arena for more than a decade.
It was time PCB acknowledged the fact there were some flaws in the existing system. "It's a good sign that the board have at least realised there are flaws and the system requires evaluation, every member in the body has huge experience of domestic cricket and I hope the team can come up with the best recommendations that are helpful for Pakistan," said Iqbal Qasim while talking to ESPNcricinfo.
