Higher Education Commission of Pakistan set up ?Solar Cell Applications Research Lab.? in the Department of Physics. Prof. (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman; Izaz-I-Kamal, Vice Chancellor GCU Lahore inaugurated the lab. Prof. Dr. Ismat Shah from University of Delaware, Prof. Dr Zakria Butt, Prof. Dr. Khalid Pervaiz, Prof. Dr Hassan Shah, Prof. Dr Riaz Ahmad and Dr. Salamat Ali were also present on the occasion.
The Lab is established as a joint venture of GCU Lahore and the University of Delaware, USA. With the establishment of dedicated laboratory the focus on the research in photovoltaics in general, andorganic photovoltaics (OPV) in particular, a great contribution could be made towards the three-fold need of research, education, and manpower development in Pakistan. University of Delaware, will provide the necessary help to jumpstart the program. However, the ultimate goal is to be able to lay out the groundwork such that an internationally recognized, independent, in-house research and education program could be successfully conducted in Pakistan, with Pakistani resources and utilizing Pakistani manpower. It is pertinent to mention here that the GCU will provide facilities, resources, and scientific know-how to scientist all over Pakistan to carry out research in the area of photovoltaics.
