NBA Denver Nuggets ? Select A Good Web Design Company That ...

Through the years, ?good? web design companies have provided customers with the service and design every business seek. Using business and individual based questions, these web companies are able to capture the essence that makes your company unique. As most business owners know, reputation means everything. When your website is created, your web design company should provide professional web design services, and cross-platform and browser compatible technology. This will ensure your website will be held to the highest standards, making your site as profitable as possible.

To the average start-up company, the building of a professional website can seem like a hassle. That?s why you should select a web company that provides you with personal one-on-one customer service, and provide an array of features, services, and ideas for your business. Make sure the web company you select can ask questions and communicate with you, without all the ?tech-speak?. This will leave a comfortable space for you to discuss what you envision for your website.

Five Things To Keep In Mind When Selecting A Professional Web Design Company

1. No Hassles, No Worries ? Select a company that will keep you informed of every expense, suggestion, idea or service they provide BEFORE they physically do it. There are web companies out there who will do all sorts of things you did not ask for, then send you an unexpected large bill.

2. Experience ? It?s always best to choose a company that knows what they are doing, when it comes to?professional web design services. Usually it always seems to come down to budget vs. quality and cost. However, paying for a poorly designed site is probably not going to make you your money back. At the end of the day, websites are an investment. Start with a smaller site and better company vs. a larger site and a poor designer.

3. SEO ? Many designers can build a website, but can they help you to promote it online? Ask the web company to provide you with proof of past search engine optimization services that they have performed for other clients.

4. 21st Century Look, Feel, and Functionality ? Choose a company that will create your site using professional web designers and that is on the cutting edge of the technology. This will ensure your new website will keep your business seem relevant on the internet.

5. Reliable ? ?Here today? gone tomorrow?. This is one area I have just never quite figured out. Why in the world would a web designer take the initiative to gain a customer, then not give them good customer service? Probably the best advice I can give you, is to find a company that is reliable. It can get quite messy if you get involved with a web design company that disappears or takes weeks to get back with you.

New Mobile Web Design Technology

Professional web design companies should currently be gearing towards creating web designs that are compatible on mobile phones and devices. And, now it is time to get ?mobile? website in the works, if you have not done so already. Technology has unveiled the ability for your website to function on mobile phones and devices even better, by creating a ?mobile? version of your site geared towards mobile users.

The popularity of ?mobile websites? is skyrocketing, as shown with national chains accepting mobile coupons through their sites and apps letting consumers compare multiple stores prices for the best deal. Imagine if there was a customer looking for your service right down the road and they pass your store because they couldn?t find you on their device! Almost all businesses should recognizes their need for a ?mobile? website, and look into companies that have or are expanding their professional web design services for the future of your mobile online business.

Minecraft (version 1.6)

Minecraft is your blocky, beautiful sandbox, to build in and play with as you please. The core of the game is exploring and surviving in a hostile world made from building-blocks that you can build with as you please. But as you play, you'll quickly see that this game has so much more to offer than just architecture.

The Minecraft Way
As a player, your only advantage over a hostile landscape is the ability to build, so if you don't want to die, you need shelter (and a food source). If you want shelter, you need to gather materials. If you want to gather materials faster, you need to craft tools. If you don't want to cower in a dark hole all night (eight minutes of real time) then you better build a nicer house.

The underlying rule of Minecraft is that you have to work for everything. Even figuring out the specific crafting recipes will require some effort. You can try to figure these out on your own, but the Minecraft Wiki is an invaluable source that will connect you to everything that can be done in the game along with the huge, active community of players.

loading...

The real fun of Minecraft is that it's flexible enough for players to enjoy on their own terms. You can focus on monster slaying, farming and animal husbandry, magic and enchantments, or astounding electro-mechanical contraptions using redstone?the in-game surrogate for electricity. A normal game is usually a mix of everything.

Minecraft even offers two modes of play. Survival Mode more is geared towards dodging enemies and building while exploring the surprisingly beautiful landscape while Creative Mode offers a pallet of every block and item in the game so you can easily construc enormous architectural triumphs or massive redstone computers.

Minecraft is also flexible in its hardware requirements. The developers say it requires at minimum 1GB of RAM, a dedicated video card (preferably nVidia GeForce 6xxx Series or ATI Radeon 9xxx Series), a 1.8GHZ CPU, and the latest 64-bit installation of Java. The game runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, with updates released simultaneously for all three. I used a Windows 8 machine and a Mac Mini in my testing. There are also versions of the game for Android, iOS, and XBox 360. The game looks excellent on high-end machines, but will perform adequately on even modestly powered laptops.

An Ever Changing, Infinite Game
Swedish developer Mojang avoided the bloated, years-long development cycle and sky-high prices of major game releases by selling copies of Minecraft long before it was "finished." New features continue to come out at a fairly regular pace. The game was recently updated to 1.6, bringing with it an exciting new feature: horses.

Players can now find and tame blocky horses (and donkeys) for riding and use as pack animals. The increased mobility is quite welcome in Minecraft, as the monsters will become more difficult the longer you spend in a particular area. Horses can be ridden with the addition of a saddle, and can also be protected with specially-crafted horse armor. Donkeys can be outfitted with chests for an additional 15 inventory slots, opening the door for in-game caravans of goods. Watch out when crossing water with these steeds, however; you'll automatically dismount in deep oceans or lakes.

Minecraft

Along with horses are "leads," which let you snag any animal from a distance and secure it to a fence post?a feature in-game farmers are sure to love. Also for animal lovers are nametags, which let you assign a specific name to an animal. Interestingly, these require experience points to create, increasing the places for players to spend their hard-earned XP.

The new update was not without its quirks, however. Boats now use the same controls as horses, which makes the already awkward watercraft all the more ungainly.

1.6 also introduced a new game launcher, with which you can assign different versions of the game to different profiles. This means you can enjoy all the latest features, but still easily move back a version if your favorite multiplayer server requires it. The new launcher will someday make modding the game much easier, but for now adding mods is still too complicated for all but the most dedicated player.

Windows 8 Is Just Fine, Microsoft's Problem Is Evolution

I have been using Windows 8 for a while a now and I am thrilled with it. I don't miss the start button one bit and I think that the operating system is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the new generation of touch PCs that will eventually flood the market by next year.

The reason why Microsoft (MSFT) has sold less copies of Windows 8 than many analysts hoped for has nothing to do with the operating system itself. As Gartner reported recently, worldwide PC shipments dropped to 76 million units in Q2 of 2013, a 10.9 percent decrease from the same period last year. This marks the fifth consecutive quarter of declining shipments, which is the longest duration of decline in PC history.

And why is this happening? One of the reasons is the sudden popularity of the tablet, especially in the developing world. As Gartner also noted:

We are seeing the PC market reduction directly tied to the shrinking installed base of PCs, as inexpensive tablets displace the low-end machines used primarily for consumption in mature and developed markets. In emerging markets, inexpensive tablets have become the first computing device for many people, who at best are deferring the purchase of a PC. This is also accounting for the collapse of the mini notebook market.

So not only have tablets displaced PCs in developing markets, more and more people are using the tablet as their primary computational device in mature and developed markets. That's bad news for the PC industry across the board, but especially if you don't have a tablet offering of your own worth mentioning.

Unfortunately for Microsoft, their Surface RT tablet initiative proved a flop and the company took a $900 million inventory adjustment write-off. For a company that has been in the forefront of the PC revolution from the very beginning, this is quite embarrassing. Because besides the fact that Microsoft didn't catch the tablet wave from the very start -- thinking tablets would never become popular -- when it did decide to get its feet wet, it did everything wrong. Unfortunately, Microsoft now is going to have to do a lot to catch up. Will it be able to catch up and compete in the space? The verdict so far is negative.

Another evolutionary problem for Microsoft is its Office Suite. More and more individuals, corporations and municipalities are using open-source solutions such as LibreOffice. I have been using LibreOffice for a long time myself and I have no idea what Microsoft can offer me to become a paying customer.

Another reason to be worried is Google (GOOG) itself. Google's online suite of tools, known as Google Apps, is just fantastic. The writer is great and offers a multilingual spell checker on the fly. Years ago, the only reason I used Microsoft Word was because it was the only solution if you wanted to write in many languages. Today that is not an issue anymore.

Microsoft's Office Suite generated $1.5 billion in revenue for the latest quarter, but that included $782 million deferred revenue from last year's 2013 upgrade offer. Without that, sales would have been $782 million, or about 27% less than last year's Q2 of $995 million. The only bright spot is that business sales are offsetting consumer sales and accounted for 88% of sales, up by about 7% y-o-y. But an increase of 7% is nothing to cheer about.

Also, the fact that less and less individuals are using Microsoft Office products might also mean Microsoft Office might be a dying bread. I admit Microsoft is fighting back with Office 365, but in a world where all these products are free, how long can Microsoft expect to see growth?

Microsoft also has lost (so far) the devices revolution. While BlackBerry (BBRY) was the original smartphone company, Apple (AAPL) with the iPhone took the world by storm, and then Google with the Android platform took the world by storm even further. Today Google's ecosystem accounts for the lion's share of smartphones and tablets sold worldwide.

Microsoft has been trying without much success to become a device company. Its alliance with Nokia (NOK) so far has not established Microsoft in the devices space. Microsoft had a chance to buy Nokia in full a while ago, but it was too stingy to pay a premium. Now that Nokia announced it will be buying the other 50% of NSN that it does own from Siemens (SI), it's probably too late.

In fact Microsoft had many chances to establish itself in the devices space, but it has been making one mistake after another. Microsoft had the world's premier ecosystem, only to see Google becoming number one in a very short time. If Gartner has it right, by 2017 there will be about 1.5 billion devices running Google's Android platform, and only a third as such (about 570 million) running Windows. Not only that, but the amount of devices that will be running under Apple's iOS will be about equal to Microsoft's (504 million). Now that's really embarrassing, because Apple does not make any popular software and does not command the lion's share of the software that runs the world's PCs. Apple is a devices company (the best there is) and nothing else. And Apple will have in circulation as many devices as Microsoft!!

Bottom line

Microsoft's problem is not Windows 8, and making a new version with a start button will not ignite sales. Sales of Windows 8 will increase and do just fine next year, when the new chapter in PC history begins, the touch-screen PC revolution.

Microsoft's problem is an issue of evolution. So far Microsoft has been behind the curve in just about every innovation one can think of. Maybe it has simply become content, once being the number one technology company in the world. Maybe management is simply old and doesn't want to experiment too much. Whatever it is, it seems that Google and Apple are always several steps ahead of it around every corner.

And while Microsoft is a very attractive stock -- I would recommend buying it anywhere below the $30 level -- in the end it is the willingness to experiment and to innovate that will bring new products to market. For some reason, Microsoft just doesn't seem to have this innovative spirit at this point in time. And in the end, that might be the reason why Microsoft is trading at a low multiple of 12 and Google at a multiple of 27.

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours. I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it (other than from Seeking Alpha). I have no business relationship with any company whose stock is mentioned in this article. (More...)

Samsung on Friday posted second-quarter results that included a record operating profit of $6.9 billion on $51.7 billion in sales. Market research firm Strategy Analytics crunched some numbers to determine that Samsung?s results include $5.2 billion in operating profit from its handset division while Apple?s $9.2 billion pre-tax profit included an operating profit of $4.6 billion from its iPhone line. Anglo American profits hit by Chinese slowdown

Mining company Anglo American has seen profits hit by slowing Chinese demand for its coal, iron ore and precious metals, although losses were tempered by consumers' seemingly unshakeable faith in diamonds.

The group reported pre-tax profits of $1.9bn (?1.2bn) for the first half of this year, down 34% on the same time last year, in the first set of earnings data under new chief executive Mark Cutifani, since he took over the troubled mining group in April.

The group blamed its performance on "continuing weak global economic growth" and burgeoning supply of coal and iron ore that is pushing down commodity prices. In particular, Chinese demand for Anglo American's iron ore has dropped off, as the Chinese authorities cut steel production in an attempt to shift the focus of their economy from factories to consumers. "In China activity is slowing," the mining group said. "Over the next few years, China's economic growth rate should run well below the average rate of the last decade, which will be a drag on growth in other emerging economies."

Anglo American noted signs of life in the economies of US and Europe, but raised doubts about the durability of Japan's upturn under "Abenomics", its radical policy of monetary stimulus.

But the uncertain economic outlook shows no sign of dampening consumers' desire for diamonds. De Beers, now majority controlled by Anglo American, reported strong sales growth in its jewellery business in Asia and Europe. This year the jeweller opened two shops: in Kuala Lumpur, in Malaysia, and Baku, seat of Azerbaijan's government. Anglo American took a controlling stake in De Beers last August, which helped lift underlying profits in its diamond business to $571m, more than double last year's $249m. Total diamond production rose 6% to 14.3m carats as a result of better grades of the precious stone from the Debswana mine in Botswana.

Cutifani, an Australian miner, is the chairman of De Beers, and is investors' great hope for turning round Anglo American, which has been scarred by violent labour unrest in South Africa, as well as falling behind rivals Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton. On Friday, he announced an overhaul of the business by scaling back its 10 units into six. Tony O'Neill has been poached from AngloGold Ashanti, to become Anglo American's technical director, leaving the management committee at 12: eleven men and one woman.

Sony confirms existence of Gran Turismo movie adaptation

Sony has made it official: there is indeed a movie based on the PlayStation-exclusive racing series Gran Turismo. The company confirmed the fact to Joystiq, but refused to divulge further details. According to an earlier report, the adaptation will be helmed by Producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti of Fifty Shades of Grey fame.

The Gran Turismo series has been massively successful for Sony, and some would even go as far as calling it a console-seller, since many people got their hands on the PlayStation 3 just to play Gran Turismo 5. The series has always had great attention to detail with its large line-up of licensed cars and race tracks. It has also been a hardcore simulation game, punishing players for even the tiniest mistakes.

Oh look. ANOTHER movie about cars and racing.

?

How Sony plans to adapt Gran Turismo into a movie is the confusing part. The games have never had any focus on the narrative, instead simply opting to throw players into races.

Another game series making its way to the big screen is the Need for Speed franchise. We had learned last year that DreamWorks Studio had been working on a movie adaptation for NFS. The movie is slated for a February 2014 release and will be written by George Gatnis, produced by John Gatnis (Red Steel) and directed by Scott Waugh (Act of Valor).

The latest game in the Gran Turismo series?Gran Turismo 6?is making its way to the PlayStation 3 later this year. The last we heard about the game, Sony had confirmed that UK's Silverstone Circuit will be one of the new racing tracks in the game.
